Caffeine Relies on DaVinci Resolve Studio for End to End Post Workflow
Blackmagic Cloud helps Mexican post facility stay connected as it expands footprint in the US.
Design today announced that Caffeine, a global creative post production studio, relies on DaVinci Resolve Studio editing, color grading, visual effects (VFX) and audio post production software for its film, TV, advertising and editorial projects. With more than 30 artists working across its Mexico City, New York City and Los Angeles locations, the team takes advantage of Blackmagic Cloud for real time, remote collaboration across its three locations and beyond.

Headquartered in Mexico City, Caffeine offers editorial, color grading, VFX, motion graphics, sound design, and finishing for diverse clients including Paramount+, Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, Polo Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Hermès and more. Caffeine has grown exponentially in the past couple of years, and according to Adrián Geyer, co founder and CEO, DaVinci Resolve Studio has been at its roots.
“Personally, I’ve been using Resolve for almost 10 years. In 2020, I moved to Mexico City, and along with other creatives and producers, we decided to start Caffeine,” said Geyer. “We chose Resolve as the foundation because of its diverse toolset and ability to help us scale the business, not only across services offered, with editing, grading, VFX and audio, but also geographically with its remote collaboration tools and Blackmagic Cloud, which helped us recruit more talent and expand our footprint into the US while remaining connected.”

Caffeine’s Mexico City location handles projects for major content providers and streaming services, and New York City and Los Angeles serve as hubs for advertising and editorial for luxury, beauty and high fashion brands, all backed by DaVinci Resolve Studio and a fleet of DaVinci Resolve Mini Panels, DaVinci Resolve Micro Panels and DaVinci Resolve Speed Editors.
“Our artists are all working within Resolve, across the Fusion, Fairlight, color and edit pages. This has allowed us to tailor to our clients’ needs, whether it’s one service or everything we offer,” said Geyer.
“In addition to Resolve’s toolset, Blackmagic Cloud is crucial for our growing business as we can tap talent anywhere to continue delivering high quality and efficiency. It has also expanded our collaboration capabilities with other studios,” he noted. “For example, we are currently completing color on an acclaimed Mexican series while another post house is handling VFX and editorial. With Blackmagic Cloud serving as the hub between the two studios, we are both able to work on the project simultaneously, speeding up the overall workflow and eliminating the traditional back and forth of material delivery. Blackmagic Cloud not only connects Caffeine’s locations, but it also opens up new opportunities to partner with other studios, further expanding our footprint in the market.”

“Working on Blackmagic Cloud has also allowed us to have better internal and external processes, minimizing errors and helping us get approvals in real time,” Geyer added. “This has brought huge advantages and cost savings for us and our clients.”
Another advantage comes in the form of DaVinci Resolve Studio’s AI tools, which also help fuel Caffeine’s precision and efficiency. Geyer said, “Our artists rely constantly on AI tools for object removal, Magic Mask for tracking, Super Scale for uprezzing visual quality of the media, and the transcription tool has been very useful when we deliver dailies to editors and they need transcripts, especially for documentaries. We have also found the subtitling capabilities to be very efficient when we need to send editorial cuts that have not been finalized but need to be approved in a different language. With this, we don’t need to do subtitling for each cut, saving time and reducing expenses.”

Geyer concluded, “Our vision for the future is to continue positioning Caffeine as a leading post studio in Mexico and the US, one that offers its clients a flexible and efficient workflow. We are all very curious artists, and Blackmagic Design has allowed us to explore that creativity and push boundaries in everything we do. It’s beautiful to see our Caffeine family grow in the past few years; look at what we’ve accomplished and get excited for what’s to come.”
