Timelapse in Sony Vegas 9
Is there a way to make a timelapse montage. I can only have a clip fast forward, but I want it to go even faster, I am trying to get a timelapse, but all it will do is just play in fast forward. any help?

You can set the playback rate to 4x. Then add a Velocity envelope at 300% for another 3x. That’s 12x. Finally save this as a project (.veg) file and drop it into another project and do it all again. 4x playback rate will bring the 12x up to 48x and 300% on top of that is 144x. Repeat as necessary.

I’m running Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9.
I can set the playback rate to 4x as explained by John above. But when I go Insert>Video Envelopes>Event Velocity, ‘Event Velocity’ doesn’t appear as an option under Video Envelopes. The only 2 options under Video Envelopes are ‘Track Composite Level’ and ‘Track Fade to Colour’.
So I can’t do this second step to speed up the video a further 3 times.
Can anyone tell me where Video Envelopes is and how to proceed?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but Velocity envelopes are available in Vegas Pro only 🙁

Ah thanks. So, in Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 (non pro version), is the only way to do time lapse to:
1. Click on the R-hand furthermost edge of a clip, hold the ctrl button down until the wavy line appears and then drag the cursor as far as it will go to the left.
2. Render.
3. Repeat step 1 on the previously rendered footage?
Will this produce acceptable results?

Stretch, Render, & Repeat is one way to do it. If you render to a lossless format like uncompressed or Huffyuv or Lagarith, you should be able to do this indefinitely with no loss of quality.
You could also cut out frames. Just cut out one frame out of every 100 and keep it and delete the video in between and your video will run 100x faster (once you close the gaps). This can be automated in Vegas Pro but Movie Studio doesn’t support scripting so you would have to do this manually.
