I am using a SONY HDR-SR1 AVCHD camera that has a 4 channel built in mic. For 5.1 I believe it derives the center from L & R. I have a Boom MIc in the HOT Shoe which actually creates the center cahnnel, then providing for 5 mics & discreet channels. I’m using Vegas 9c…

I know when I edited a significant amount of my older video that I was able to get 5 channels onto the timeline. Now I all I get is 2 to show up on the timeline. I have searhed and not found an answer. I also have tried everything i can think of…..can someone PLEASE offer some suggestions to me??

    Thank you……

Make sure to set the audio tab in your project properties to 5.1 surround BEFORE you drop anything on your timeline.

    Just to confirm this.
File – Properties – Audio – 5.1 Surround in the Master bus mode dropdown box.

Yep. I wonder if my camera isn’t doing something wrong? I’ve looked at the camera and even got the intruction maual out…can’t find anything that appears to be wrong….

As it turns out, the mic I have attached apparently is faulty. When it is attached it goes goes into stereo only recording. When it is not attached or even just NOT turned on, the 5.1 icon appears and it records in 5.1.

Thx for your response. sorry to waist your time.

Richard, you’re definitely not wasting my time.
I was curious as to why it wasn’t working and you found the answer.
If someone else has the same problem someday, I’ll be able to offer a possible solution.
