  Making Text take form of part of a wall (object)

  Peace…

  I’ll to explain it the best that I can.

  I am trying to have text (“productions”) come from behind a still I have and push thru to take form of the wall (object) — so the word “productions” is taking form of part of the wall and also readable.

  Wondering if there is a tutorial for this?

  Hope I was clear — I always have difficult explaining what I see in My head..haha.

  Try Blending modes and even Texturize on the text.

  If I understand correctly what you are trying to achieve, then it should actually be done in a 3D app to look just like you are imagining it. However, there are some techniques in after effects you can use to make it look somewhat like you want from the front view only.

  You can create a black solid layer, type the text on top of it in white, precompose it, then use it as a displacement map on the wall layer, and keyframe the displacement to have it “push” through.

  Another option is to duplicate the wall, then use the text as a track matte for the duplicated layer, precompose it, and apply the bevel alpha effect to the precomp. You can then keyframe the depth of the bevel to have it “push” through.

  None of these methods will look stunning, but like I said, to have it look like the way you are imagining, it should be done in a 3D application.

  What 3D app would you recommend?

  I’ve always edited in Final Cut for the last couple of years so I’m trying expand to some more sophisticated programs.

  Hey thanks for the questions.

  Actually no story board just see it in my head.

  The Wall is actually a metal Door with Brick around it.
  But i want the TEXT to ‘push’ thru the door — so the TEXT will not completely go thru—the effect would be an imprint in the door of the TEXT.

  This will happen after the end of a sequence–the TEXT does not need
  to move in 3 dimensions (although that is a good idea).

  TEXT should move all at once.

  Oh yeah — So the TEXT WOULD EXTRUDE thru something presently occupying the place.
