Hello, I have a bunch of video projects I plan on doing, and I will be doing things like muzzle flashes and what not, but any way, which version would be better to buy, the Platinum Pro Pack, or Vegas Pro?

sounds like you be compositing in them thar hills. Pro is more suited to the task. Studio could do the muzzle flashes, but only real way you’re going to assess your needs is to try out both trial versions and see which you need.

So, Pro can do the flashes. I was looking at the site and it looked like Pro had a WHOLE lot more to offer.

I was thinking Vegas Pro would be the better choice. But is there anything missing from Pro that I’ll need?

well, After Effects will do a better job for compositing, but Vegas Pro has better compositing abilities than any other NLE, that’s for sure.

You guys are so helpful and I thank you very much but also apologize for my lack of knowledge.

I did want to know which would be better, because they’re both in my budget range. Action Essentials or EffectsLab Pro?

You would be better off with EffectsLab Pro because it’s an FX generator. Action Essentials is a nice set of pre-keyed video overlays that you just drop into your production but you cannot create more. With EffectsLab Pro you actually create the FX which gives you more creative control over how they look and an infinite number of possibilities. This is why it costs more but it’s worth it.

To finish off, Effects lab pro is the one to purchase instead of
action essentials. Its a complete visual effects software where
    ‘essentials’ are just composited stocks.

    For NLE…
Sony vegas pro 8…on top of the fact thats its one of the best
professional NLE’s, it does compositing better than any of its counterparts.
