Anamorphic
This may have been asked before, and I know this is my first post, but I’ve tried searching – and have been an avid viewer of these forums.
I’m a novice when it comes to AE, but have edited a fair few vids in other apps, such as Premiere / FCP etc.
One thing that always gets me is aspect ratio’s for output.
I was asked to throw together an ad for a friend, and have done so, completely in AE.
My mistake was this – I set the comp to Film 2k,anamorphic (as this is what I needed the video in), rather than just exporting in whatever aspect I needed. So now when I export (even when chosing 16:9) it appears 4:3.
How can I get the final render (in as high quality, preferably uncompressed qt) to display at its correct aspect ratio?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

OK, I think I sorted the issue out.
On rendering, I chose 2:1 par, and stretched the image to 3112×1556, and now its in the correct aspect on screen.
Did I do this correctly (as a workaround) or have I made a total pigs ear of how I did it?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The ad is for viewing in cinema, before features at the jameson film festival in Dublin.

The problem is / was, the guy who I was doing the advert for merely told me that it’s for cinema, and needs to be anamorphic. I couldn’t get info from him about what res the production house wanted, so decided to make it large enough for cinema. As it turns out now, it will be required on digibeta……

Indeed. The key was the word “digiBeta”: the “cinema-ness” of it only mattered in design terms, not technical-delivery terms. For example, a bigger screen often means you can use smaller type (as far as resolution allows, of course) and bigger David Lean-ish vistas. You’d design differently for a little 320×240 thing on a computer.
Also know that many people use “anamorphic” incorrectly. Technically, it only applies to film, not video. Video uses the term “widescreen”.
Next time, ask if Pearl & Dean is delivering the spot. They have specs for UK cinema adverts that you need to know. Especially pay attention (and confirm) to their audio specs.

Check with the place displaying the video. I recently made an ad to display on a cinema screen (here in the US) and this is what their specifications call for:
