VOB files in Vegas 6c
Posted by Eyewall on September 28, 2005 at 7:59 pmI have been trying to put VOB files onto the timeline, and despite the full file playing in Windows Media Player, I only get 41 seconds of the video or something much shorter than what is really in the VOB. Is there a secret to get Vegas to recognize the entire VOB? I just upgraded to VV6c and heard that VOBs can now be imported and would love to use this feature.
Thanks for all suggestions,
Eyewall

September 29, 2005 at 12:52 amThanks for your suggestions. I got excited and thought the camcorder DVD import was going to do it, but it still won’t go beyond about 51 seconds. I’m pretty sure this DVD was made on a stand-alone DVD player/recorder. It has the following files on it which looks unusual to me as I have only seen the files made by DVDA.
VIDEO_RM
VIDEO_TS
The VIDEO_TS file has only one VOB file on it when it is “explored,” but when I use DVD Decrypter to get the VOB files, it has 4 VOBs of about 1 GB each. But each maxes out at about 51 seconds on the Vegas timeline, except for #3 which does go about 28 minutes, but it is the only one. Seems strange if there really is 1 GB in each one.
I’ve tried running it through DVD Shrink just to get rid of any protection in case that was it. I tried those VOBs in Vegas and it did the same thing.
The DVDs I’ve made with Vegas and DVDA, I can put those VOBs onto the timeline, and it works great. Is it because this weird DVD was made by a stand-alone DVD player/recorder?
Puzzled,

October 2, 2005 at 1:20 pmYou are probably having the same problem I run into working with the DVDs made with the stand alone Panasonic recorders. They do some odd things to the vob files, as a result of putting in invisible markers in them. Anyway, there is a program called Videoredo https://www.videoredo.com/, it has a feature called fixvideostream. It goes through the file quickly, and renumbers the frames in a standard way (it is my understanding). After that, the VOB file is recognized correctly.
BTW, I tried to use the new DVD import feature in the C release, nothing happens. Is it only supposed to work with the connected DVD camera, or any DVD drive?

October 2, 2005 at 4:59 pmHmm, still no luck. I insert the DVD into aone of the DVD drives. Vegas correctly identifies the drive that has the disk while in import menu. It does not allow me to actually select the video and audio folders, just the DVD drive. Once I hit OK, it just blinks and nothing happens

October 2, 2005 at 7:43 pmPositive. There is a split second blink, similar to a pop up being closed by a pop up killer, no activity after that. The destination folder is empty. I ripped many DVDs in the past, so I have a general feel for what is expected…
