Activity Forums VEGAS Pro ANOTHER SIMPLE QUESTION

I hope you guys can help me with this — –

Once again, I have upgraded from Vegas Audio 2.od to Vegas 5 – and I’m having some difficulty with the differences – especially those that are NOT in either ‘Help’ or in the Vegas 5 manual.

On Vegas Audio I have a toggle switch in the tool menue for “simultanious playback/record” – and since I almost NEVER use this feature, I have it turned off by default.

Vegas 5 does not have this.

So NOW – every time I record on a track – I am also playing back AND RECORDING the stuff on parallel tracks – it’s very frustrating.

I use a laptop – with Win 2000 Pro – and just a simple in/out that most laptops have.

I have come up with two possible solutions – but they are both very “clunky” – the first one is to keep the ‘recording’ sound card active – and have it set to “line in” – but then if I want to record from a cd – I have to change it to “cd” – and if I want to record from the microphone, I need to change it again to “microphone” and so forth – – very clunky….

The other solution is to mute all of the channels except the one I am recording – I have not tried this, but in theory it should work – but that’s really clunky too.

You guys have any better ideas – – I hope??
    thanks

Just select the track(s) you are recording on and hit the “!” button on the track header or “x” on the keyboard which will solo only those tracks. (In effect muting all the others — just easier). You can toggle the solo button on a single track or multiple tracks with mouse or “x” on the keyboard.

Thanks – that’s just the opposite from what I had figured out – and frankly I’m surprised that Vegas dumped that “simul play/record” switch – I would have thought they would have a better solution – but then – maybe I’m the only guy with this problem.

    thanks again
