Hi John. First of all, Vegas 4 is up to version 4.0e. I’d recommend grabbing that right away as there were several bug fixes as it went along.

As far as the latest version is concerned, it’s entirely up to you. I made the jump from 4 to 5 more fore DVDA 2 than anything else and it was worth it. Looking at the new features in Vegas 6 & DVDA 3, it’s only a matter of time. I plan to do the upgrade before the end of May (to take advantage of the price saving) but I may wait for 6.0b (Vegas is currently at 6.0a) before installing it. Some users on this and other forums have had no problems at all while others have had several. You can run 6 and 4 on the same machine as the new install doesn’t overwrite previous versions.

Once again, it’s up to you but, for the many added features in both, I’d do it.

    Hi Mike,

It was nice seeing you and Ed at NAB. This is my update on Vegas 6. I just received it and downloaded Vegas6 & DVD3. I’m coming up with some problems. I have 2 external hard drives that I capture my footage to.
One drive has 140 GB free space and the other has 238 GB free space.
Her are the problems. I started out capturing footage and the first tape went well. The problem was I captured it to the main C: hard drive and it left me with very little memory. I deleted it to start over again, which I have no problem with and now I get the problems listed below.

    (1) Windows-Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:$WST.
The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
No matter what drive I save to, I get the same message.
I tried using Vegas 5 and I get the next problem.

    (2) Sony Video Capture 5.0
An error occured while capturing from the device
    Error 0x800705aa (message missing)

    (3) Then I get this message stating the system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications.
The problem with this message is that I have nothing else open to reduce the memory.

I’m already thinking about getting rid of my Dell P3, actually, only using it for internet access. Then going to Fry’s Electronics and having a computer built from scratch according to the specs given by Videoguys.com
    What do you think?

I would recommend the upgrade. The differences between DVDA 1 and DVDA 3 are HUGE. If you’re going to look at making DVDs anytime soon, you’ll want DVDA3.

Vegas 6 also adds a LOT of new features that I feel are worth the difference. I do understand some people have had a few problems. As for capturing and PTT problems, it’s always possible to use the old version for capturing and printing purposes. Just remember that Vegas 4 will not open a project that was saved in Vegas 6. The project could be rendered to DV-AVI and printed using Vegas 4, though.

    Hi Ed,

I have already upgraded to Vegas 6 & DVDA 3. I think I need to upgrade my Dell P3 or you can use it as an anchor for your boat when you go fishing. HA! HA! LOL 🙂

Yes, I gave up on my P3 when moving to Vegas 5. It just really couldn’t hack it anymore. Now it simply prints DVDs and case covers/boxes and, maybe, burns DVDs. Vegas 6 is only on my laptops.

    Hi Ed,

I know what you mean. If you don’t mind, what laptop are you using for Vegas 6? I was checking out the laptops yesterday and the HP zd8080 was looking might good to me. What do you think?

    Hello Vegas Users,

What Sony Laptop model does anyone recommend for using the Almighty Vegas6 & DVDA3?

NONE. I’ve yet to see a Sony laptop that I thought was worth the hefty price. Not only are they over priced, and over rated, but they are over flowing with extra software that eats away resources.

For the same $$ you can get much more computer from just about any other manufacturer.

My main laptop is a Sager that’s a P4, 3.4 GHz, 1 Gig RAM, 800MHz FSB, with TWO 60 Gig 7200RPM drives. I purchased it from powernotebooks.com. My smaller laptop is from PCNirvana and is a P4, 2.8 GHZ, 1 Gig RAM, with a slower 60 Gig hard drive. I have a 120 Gig firewire drive attached to it for storage.

Both run Vegas 6 well but the Sager is noticably faster.

    Hi ED,

Sorry with the slow response. I had to see my 92 year old Mother-In-Law for Mothers Day

Thanks a lot Ed for the information. I’ll look them up.

    Moooooooooooo!
