November 19, 2006 at 9:14 pmA force changes the direction that particles are travelling in. It has to be on the same layer as particles to affect them, and sometimes it helps to increase the Strength.
A deflector is used to deflect particles. Changing an emitter’s Bounce graph determines how much they’ll deflect off the deflector.

November 24, 2006 at 8:53 pmI’d strongly suggest running through the manual. Not becasue we don;t want to help you, but because all the answers are presented there really clearly. Also, for something as simple as that you may have to wait a while for an answer in case one of us wasn’t available to respond.
And if you prefer not to read the manual, Elvis has a dvd called “The Apprentice Magician’s Guide to PartilceIllusion” which will walk you through virtually every feature in under 2 hours, and which you can find at http://www.creativecowtraining.net.
