  • PAL anamorphic movie to NTSC .m2v – resize settings?

Posted by Dima Venkov on February 20, 2009 at 12:25 am

    Hi,
I’m trying to convert my movie shot in PAL anamorphic mode into an NTSC .m2v file for DVD Studio Pro. What resize settings should I be using in Episode Pro to keep the widescreen proportions? 720X406?
    Thanks!

I see that After Effects has an NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel preset 865×486 – is this the the resize settings I should apply in Episode?

Episode has a bunch of presets for Standards conversion, have you tried these?

    720×480
    Maintain proportions with None (Distort)
Source Display Aspect ratio – Pass through or force it by using ‘assume’

tried that – but the m2v comes out 4×3 squeezed horizontally. The 846×486 also comes out 4×3 and is not recognized by DVD Studio Pro. What the…?
If Toast can make an NTSC DVD from a PAL movie with just one click, Episode should definitely be able to do that too, ain’t it?

What are you using to view the m2v?

I imported it into DVD Studio Pro, viewed it in Mpeg Streamclip, and as preview in finder (space bar) – looks the same.
