This is SUCH a basic question…that I feel embarrassed to post here.

However, I am almost tearing my hair out over this.

Question: In C4D – How do I enable the viewport labels that normally appear top left (Perspective, Front, Left etc etc) that I see as standard on any C4D youtube tutorial, or screenshot??!

A screenshot from my machine: https://cl.ly/0g2A3d2q0c3a

Shouldn’t there be a label here such as: https://cl.ly/110W243B1h0a

Am I going crazy? I checked viewport settings and what have you….and I can only imagine that I am missing something extremely basic.

    Many thanks and apologies…

    Cheers

shift-V to get to the View Settings (or Mode/View Settings in the Object Manager) and choose the HUD tab and make sure Projection is checked

Thanks so much for your quick reply.

    I’ve checked this though: https://cl.ly/1X35360p2Q0v

And as you can see that is checked (and for effect, I have also checked everything else here)…

Nothing in the viewports have changed? Any idea?

In the View “Filter” menu enable Hud.

    Thanks for this Jim,

However I had already looked at this and as you can see from my screenshot here:
    https://cl.ly/0F1k0f411y38

    I have this checked already.

This is so strange?!! I’ve even reinstalled C4D. Maybe this isn’t as simple as I first though?!

Yes, it is very odd. As far as I know the steps that Brian and I gave you should have resolved the issue. Just out of curiosity, try opening this project file and see what you get:

Here is a tutorial that explains the concept behind a new.c4d scene file. I uploaded one that has the Viewport “Filter” menu, and the view settings that Brian mentioned, set up to display what you seem to be missing. If you can open it, and you don’t see the window labels displayed (Perspective, Top, etc.) then I would suggest contacting Maxon support for further help.

Jim, thanks again for your reply.

That attachment opens and displays as follows:

I’m glad to help, but I am at a loss as to what is causing your issue since that scene file should have made the settings necessary to give you the HUD display. Again, you may want to contact Maxon support, especially since you have already tried a reinstall (which should have given you default settings.)

If I think of anything else I will follow-up later.

    Good luck.

Only thing I can think to add is that it *may* be OGL related? To rule it out, go to Preferences>OpenGL and run the compatibility test. Then turn off hardware OGL and restart the application.

    Thanks for this input Adam.

I have indeed tried this however – no joy still.

Thanks anyway guys. I guess it’s not a huge problem – just an extremely odd problem.
