  • Placing an After Effects layer in the correct z space using C4D extracted camera data

I am working with a gigantic scene created in Cinema 4D. I have rendered out the various multi pass layers from Cinema, extracted the camera data from the C4D project file, and would now like to place a 3D layer created in After Effects at the most distant point of the landscape I created. I was able to do this through a hit and miss process. But there should be a more precise way to locate the proper Z space position. Does anyone know the process?

    Thanks a lot.

Best way would probably be to give your most distant object an external compositing tag in Cinema 4D. Then, when you export 3D data to AE and import the AEC file, you’ll get a null (or solid if you choose) at the location of your object.
