  Second hand on a ticking clock

  I have to animate a ticking clock and the focus will be on the second hand. I could animate it as a sweep hand, but would rather the hand moved every second. Rather than animate this a frame at a time I was wondering if anyone has an expression that could just rotate the hand 6 degrees every second to replicate the movement of the hand.

  You need just a few XPresso nodes. First add a Time node, set it to seconds. Take the output of that node into a FloatMath node which is set to floor. Then take this output into a Math node, set it to Multiply. Feed the rounded time into the first port, for the second port use a fiixed value of six. This will give your rotation. Plug the result in any of your object’s channels.

  couple of small corrections, that would be FloatFunc not FloatMath and you’d want to add a Degree node (set to Degree to Radians) to take the value into the second hand

  If you are in a hurry and are running R10 with MoGraph you can see if the StepCLOCK rig might work for you.

  Thanks very much for this folks – as is sod’s law, the client rejected my 3D idea and I have had to do it in AE in a different style.

  However, it hasn’t been entirely wasted – I will try the method anyway as part of my ongoing mission to learn Xpresso.
