  • Using an object as the light

Hi, I wanted to know how I could use an object that I created as the light bulb itself.

I’d appreciate it if anyone could explain it briefly or direct me to a tutorial.
    Thanks alot.

It’s pretty easy actually. Create a light and set the type to “Area”. Then go to the light’s Details tab and set the “Area Shape” to object/spline. Now drag your object into the object box and check the “show in render” box below that.

My 3d object consists of many parts grouped under a null object.
When I try to drag and drop the null obejct (and so its children) into the “Object” field in the “Details” tab of the area light, the Object field doesn’t accept my object. But the same field accept say a simple Cube object after that object made editable.

How can I make my multi-part object a light source?

    Thx

You’ll have to either connect the parts into a single object or use separate lights for each part.
