  Ok guys,
  Ive been having fun with my new Maxon Form Toy, works a treat at creating much more sophisticated GDL objects for Archicad. ok less chit chat

  I want to cut through my architectural model
  H . O . W . ?

  cannot find a nice simple section tool.

  Boolean does not work with imported objects from Archicad where all of my modelling has been done (u know what i mean) so i cannot create a huge slab and subtract one side

  ANY CLUES?? thanks!!!

  I would knife down the center from the top view.
  But since you seem to be wanting boolean, duplicate your object and use a cube boolean on one half and a cube boolean on the other.
  Then if you make the booleans editable you can select the parts and connect them into one (half) object from the objects menu.

  If only it was that simple

  Because im using an archicad export plug in the objects dont behave in exactly the same way. You cannot edit them for a start. To make an object editable you need to import to maxon form, create, edit, import back into Archicad , then into Cinema for rendering :S

  boolean does not work as i mentioned
  knife only works with editable cinema shapes

  My walls and windows for example have their own Archicad tag. Is there still a way of creating a section through the buildings??

  The only thing I can think of in your case is camera clipping (available in the camera>object menu), but that only clips the scene parallel to the film plane.

  Best solution i found was
  1. use the Graphisoft cutting plane tool.
  2. define a new cutting section material
  3. Save you current C4d model as not to loose any of your modelling which was not done in Archicad
  4. Merge files importing materials only – this will automatically cut away the bit u do not need. Your full model is safe dont forget
  5. Define a contrasting cutting plane material in C4d (bright red)
  6. Render away.. it gives you a very readable rendered section.
