I admit, I am fairly new to this 3D stuff (if you noticed from my previous cow posts). But I thought was making some good progress … untill now.

I have this 3D model (A Company Logo) that was originally created using Maya … I think it was exported as a DXF then imorted into Cinema. The thing has a million polygons (first of all), and I was able to clean up all the flat surfaces by meting them/creating new polygons, etc … However, the face of this model is concave, and no matter what I try … I get this puckering effect in the center of all these polygons. I am using a Phong Tag, but … Because of all the sharp outer edges, I cant set the Phong Angle to more than 7 degrees. I tried melting these polygons together into rings, recalculating n-gons, and still … it looks like there’s an a@#hole in the middle of this concaved shape. What am I missing here?

it’s hard to know without looking at the model but… can it be re-exported from Maya as a .obj (which *might* be better)? Otherwise if the dxf is needlessly complex it will take a lot of work to clean it up and it might be easier to rebuild it yourself or remove parts and replace them in Cinema. As I say it’s hard to know without seeing it.
