I’m working on a single shot which features a car zooming over a bridge. I want to start with a reasonably static wideshot then fly in with a manic helipcopter like motion and lock onto my car.

While the camera target feature is ideal for my closeup of the vehicle when i’m close, I don’t want it dictating my static wide. I’ve tried to nest a null within my car model compensating for the movement by starting it far then bringing closer but its not great.

Ideally I want a mix of static camera and ‘locked on’ camera for this shot. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

    thank you all in advance,

    Hi Simon,
You should check out the steady cam Xpresso setup that Lennart has put together. It’s an amazing piece of work and I think it would be perfect for your animation: https://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=256818

Thanks Adam. Yes that would be very easy. I’ll upload version 78 later tonight, or possible tomorow (Current is 77). SteadyCAM78 have a -very- good option to use only parts of splines as Tracks. Makes animation/trimming even faster.

    Cheers

Sounds perfect for the Parent constraint that Maya has. Where you can keyframe the mix between 2 different animations or constraints smoothly. I think Cactus Dan or someone has posted constraint plug-ins they made, one of them being parent.

My other though is create 2 seperate animations and motion blend between them like using characters.
