  • wedding videos – what goes wrong?

I’m compiling a list of the main reasons that wedding video production encounters a “fatal” error. By which we mean an error that has a significant effect on the end product (one that might require a refund or somesuch). I think we’ve covered them all but if anyone can add any to the list please do so.

    1. losing/reusing tapes

    2. equipment failure

    3. bad mic placement/ audio interference

    4. media failure

    5. transportation problem, accident, breakdown

    6. miscommunication leading to missed shots

    7. operator error – bad exposure/framing/audio levels – renders footage unusable

    8. assistant not showing up

    9. problems cause by failure to have appropriate equipment or backup equipment readily available.

    10. losing client photos/cds etc.

    11. failure to meet delivery deadlines.

    12. Physical accidents involving video equipment.

    13. Physical incapacity of crew member

    Photographer blocks shot
    Officiant limits shooting position
    Theft of equipment and/or tapes
Illness or accident prevents you from showing up

Yeah, I had a college chum who went into show biz.

Though he never made “top billing” his biggest claim to fame was being one of the “Opening Acts of God”.

    😉

thanks Matte – I take your point. Would this cover it:

    16. Miss covering first dance because guests distract you with stories about their famous friends.

    :O)

Failing to hit the “stop record” button when you thought you did. This leads to nice footage of the floor as you carry the camera to the next spot, nice footage of you setting up the shot, and nice footage of you pre-focusing, then BAM, the shot ends as you hit the record button, thus stopping the tape.

Not that this has ever happened to me.

    I think that one’s covered under #7. 🙂

This is an add-on to #3, but it’s worth adding on:

Making sure the groom’s cell phone is OFF. He may think that it’s not a problem since he has it on silent mode, but if it is on at all it can cause wireless interference when it checks in with the tower.

Camera persons cell phone on Silent will cause a loud buz on the tape and anyone close to the camera as well!

Not keeping one eye on the bride and the other on the photog.
