need a quicker way to skew text
Posted by Roli Rivelino on March 9, 2010 at 4:31 pmIs there a quicker way to skew my text than going into the distort parameters in the motion tab and entering values?
I’ve tried various combinations of buttons in the image and wireframe view but can’t seem to get it to do anything other than change size or rotate.
many thanks

March 9, 2010 at 4:48 pmOne way to deal with easily applying distort to a clip is Paste Attributes. Skew the first clip the way you want, then copy it. Make your next text clip, then Paste Attributes and check Distort. Or, just copy the clip, paste it where you want in the timeline and then change the text. And, I think Boris Title 3D has a slew parameter.

March 9, 2010 at 5:18 pmI don’t think that method helps me, let me explain a little more, I have a shot of a building which should have some lettering on it and so I want to skew the lettering so it looks real.
But entering numbers isn’t really working for me so I just want to drag it around till it looks right, is Boris Title 3D an effect within Final Cut or something separate?
Do you think I should be doing this in motion anyway?

March 9, 2010 at 5:33 pmBoris Title 3D is a Generator in FCP. It’s probably easier to work with for your purpose than the distort settings as you’ll see the result as you move the control. But, if you’re familiar with Motion that’d work fine as well. You might want to add a bit of blur or noise to the text so it looks a bit more “real” when composited on the building. If your shot is moving, then tracking in Motion will be better.

March 9, 2010 at 5:43 pmI would create the text in Motion. It will let you skew it or rotate it any way you want. In my opinion the rotate feature in FCP doesn’t look very good, it will bend stuff funny sometimes.
