How to extend only one clip at edit point
So if two clips are on the timeline, butted up next to each other, and you hit “V”, it selects the edit. If you then use the “>” or “<" it does a rolling edit, trimming off the piece of one clip and adding to the next. But what if you only want one clip to change? If Clip A and Clip B are next to each other, I want to select the end of Clip A and extend it by 5 frames. I DON'T want to shorten Clip B at the same time. I just want to extend Clip A, and push Clip B (intact), down the timeline by 5 frames. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks!

This is called a ripple edit. Press the U key till the incoming side of the edit is selected. Type 5 and press enter or return. There are other ways and tools to do this. I’d suggest reading a good book or getting a training DVD.
