No Capture – Nothing in Bin – Weird QT files in Scratch Folder
I cannot capture. This has happened once before. I have plenty of disk space and the same dv cam I’ve always used. Am on a Mac Pro intel Leopard w/ FCP 6.06. FCP controls the cam but the capture window only flashes and nothing gets into the bin. Some weird QT files show up in my scratch folder.

What kind of HD are you using for capturing?

I checked my scratch disc on the external drive to check if it was getting anything and I have several untitled QT files which I cannot open. Each of those are stamped with the exact time I had attempted to capture. Probably dreaded software problem.

Indeed. And make sure the hard drive you’re capturing to is formatted in Mac OS Extended.

It’s an Iomega 500 GB (HDD 1H4). Firewire & ESATA. Drive was formatted a long time ago and hasn’t changed since I began using it nearly a year and a half ago. I was able to capture to it just last month.

All media drives should be cleaned regularly. That means erasing and re-initializing them. A drive that has not been cleaned for a year and a half is probably badly fragmented.
We try to clean our drives off at least every three months to keep them clean. I have some extra drives around so we can dump the media off the array, erase the array, and then copy the media back.
