  Exporting for web with QT conversion

  Hi there,
  I’m editing and posting footage from several different cameras with different resolutions. The most troublesome produces .avis with divX codec, 570 TV lines WIDE. If I export with QT conversion using MPEG4 and broadband high settings for a 2min sequence, I get a blurry 18MB file. If I export with plain old QT, I get a 3.6 GB file. Either way the export and rendering take at least half an hour each. What I’d like of course is to maintain the original quality and enable streaming.
  With HD footage (from Sony XDCam or Canon VIXIA HG21) I have the same problem; I don’t know how to control the output file size to maintain highest res possible.

  Try exporting your sequence to compressor and using the web settings, I would use the H.264 800kps streaming setting, you can also mess around with the settings and hit save and it will become one of your custom settings, which you can use again; don’t forget to rename.

  Don’t forget that Final Cut, down converts your footage to the lowest res you’re using, so if you have xdcam, hdv and dv, then FCP will down convert everything to dv, so that’s the quality you’ll be working with.

  Thanks, I will try. Just to clarify, I am not mixing footage of different resolutions in my sequences, so the settings for each one are appropriate for the original res.
