final cut
Hello,
I am a beginner to final cut pro 6 and I own a canon hv20 camcorder which I plan to very soon shoot some footage… I know this may seem very general, but I have done some research and I really need some opinions. I need this footage to look as cinematic as possible when I am finished editing it. What settings should I shoot in? I am assuming the cine mode in HD? What would be the best bet to import my footage? I plan on putting the footage to disc and sending it to a couple of festivals. how should I go about compressing the footage? I have read too much about people running into problems down the road after they’ve shot and transferred their footage. I do not want to have to deal with that.
Also, would I have to perform a 3:2 pulldown?

I don’t know the camera, but I suggest the HD 24p setting if you’re going for a film look. The camera shoots HDV so you can capture in HDV, or if your computer and version of FCP supports ProRes, use that (checkout the Easy Setups for HDV). Many people like the ProRes codec for its editability (is that a word?), but others are fine with HDV native. Search the Cow any you’ll find a lot of discussion about this.
Search this forum and the DVDSP forum for advice on how to use Compressor to encode and DVDSP to make your DVDs. You’ll get better, more specific advice if your questions are more specific.
