  Edit SDI on MBP with Apple Pro Res or DV 50 ?

  Hello,

  I will be receiving footage shot on DigiBeta shortly. I will have them transfered to my external firewire 800 drive thorugh a MacPro;
  I am confused whether I should capture and edit using Apple Pro Res 422 SD PAL, or will DV 50 (also 422) should the job as well. I am using FinalCut 6.02 on a MAcBookPro 2.4 with 2 Gigs of Ram. I have 1 TB of RAID 0 drive system connected through the firewire 800 bus. Will the bandwith of Apple Pro res slow my system albeit the high quality, or should I stick with DV 50 ?

  Both are 8 bit quality, am I right ?

  ProRes on a MacBook Pro will be iffy without an AJA Io HD which provides all the hardware acceleration onboard for that format.

  Hi Walter,

  Thanks for the reply. I am planning on editing SD footage, not HD..I would have used DV50 but have heard issues with color regarding this specific codec. I am plannig on capturing using Kona to my FW800 drive and editing.
  What do you mean iffy ? You mean the processing power wouldnt be sufficent ?
