  FCP to 40″ TV

  Hi

  Can anyone tell me the best way to get video on a 40″ TV straight out of FCP? I was thinking of getting a HDready plasma.

  We pretty much do all our projects in SD.

  First off, SD generally looks terrible on HD plasmas. We have four of them in the shop and even playing 8bit Uncompressed SD straight on to the plasma, they don’t look good because the image is being blown up so much to fit on that screen, even in pillarbox mode. HD plasmas are designed to play HD.

  As for viewing to such TV, you haven’t told us your system specs, but you can purchase an AJA Io HD, AJA Kona LH, AJA Kona LHe, AJA Kona 2, AJA Kona 3, AJA Io. All of which will play your SD video to the screen, most of these will play HD to your screen as well. Some only work on older PCI-X systems and some only work on the newer PCIe systems.

  We have a new super mac that supports the 30″ apple monitor and one available DVI out, I don´t have the rest of the specs, do you need them?

  What adapter and TV would you recomend? I was thinking Panasonic pv70 or px70. A Sony LCD is also interessting, but It seems plasma looks better with camera movement.

  Yes, unless you want to purchase a Matrox MXO to convert your DVI to video for the plasma, but I don’t use or recommend those.

  For the plasma screens I recommend the Panasonic Pro series 42″ model Generally this model is cheaper than the consumer version of the same screen.
