FCP importing
Posted by Omnidecay on July 18, 2007 at 6:09 amOK, so I google searched the sony HDR-FX1 and I cant seem to link up with my comp for the life of me. No additional icons appear once plugged in, no sound is made and when I hit log and capture. A pop up says “unable to initialize capture device”. This is the first time I have used a camera to capture footage so sorry if this is a repeated easy fix.
Thank you

July 18, 2007 at 7:10 amAre you capturing HDV or DV?
If you are capturing DV was it shot in HDV?
What are your settings in FCP.Your settings in FCP determine what type of video signal FCP looks for. If the camera is not set to send that signal out the firewire connection then, its like the computer is speaking english and the camera is speaking german.
If you are trying to capture HDV and have FCP set for HDV yet have your camera set to send out a DV signal then they are speaking different languages.
Remember the FX1 can play back video shot in HDV as DV footage. So if you are trying to capture HDV but the camera is set to send out a DV signal, they will not communicate.

July 18, 2007 at 8:48 amIm sorry, I figured out how to change it from DV to HDV. This did not fix the problem, FCP/computer will still not recognize the camera. Im at a bit of a stand still.

July 18, 2007 at 11:38 pmThose settings look right, double check the camera, play back settings.
If that douse not do it then, see if you can capture in DV this will let you know if the firewire connection on the camera and your cable are working.

July 18, 2007 at 11:46 pmThe footage was captured on DV mode. When I switch the camera from DV to HDV a window in the camera viwer pops up saying “No output image in VCR HDV/DV, change format.

July 18, 2007 at 11:59 pmSo, if your video was captured as DV, then you’ll want your FCP settings to reflect that.
Try setting your Capture to DV, rather than HDV.
Set your device to Sony DV Firewire.
