• Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy

  No audio will play until I export as an .mpeg

  I’ll capture a clip from a Mini DV, I’ll put it into the timeline and the clip will play perfectly except for the fact that there is no sound.

  I’ve checked the waveform and the audio is there, it just doesn’t play back. Furthermore, when I export as an .mpeg and play the whole thing in Quicktime, the sound is perfectly fine.

  What’s going on? If it’s at all relevant, I’m shooting in 24pa (and capturing with NTSC DV Advanced)and using Final Cut 6.

  Does the source file playback audio in QuickTime? Right click on the clip and select “Reveal in Finder”

  You didn’t leave your log and capture/transfer window open did you?

  Can you get anything to make a sound in FCP? Try playing back bars and tone.

  It turns out I needed to change the Audio Playback options in the View pulldown menu – the default settings had it playing through a non-existent channel.
