  • Problem: Capturing HDV footage in FCP5

    Hi Everyone!

I am trying to capture using a Sony HDV-FX1 and FCP5, and I am having problems. Does anyone know the Audio/Video Settings I should be using (in FCP5) and wether I need to change the settings on the camera at all?

    * The footage has been shot in HDV 1080i (not sure wether to use 50hz or 60hz presets in FCP5, have tried both though and still cant get capturing)
    * Current Audio/Video settings (not working) are:
    Sequence Preset: HDV 1080i60
    Capture Preset: HDV
Device Control Preset: Sony HDV Firewire
    Video Playback: None
    Audio Playback: Default

Overall Problem: I cant capture the HDV1080i footage, I also cant see a preview of it in the log and capture viewer slug. When i try to capture with these settings, FCP5 doesnt recieve any video at all. I’ve tried using other settings and I get errors for one reason or another.

I know it is possible for me to downgrade the footage to dv, However I dont want to downgrade my footage as you can understand I want to solve this problem and be able to capture and edit in HDV. Can someone please help with this problem?? If you do have a FX1 and it works can you please let me know your settings!!!

    Thanks!!
    Matt.

Your settings for FCP look correct. I would look to the camera settings. Get out the manual.

I’m probably telling you things you already know, but here you go.

Double check your clip settings tab in the capture window. Is the video tick mark checked?

Try a different fire wire cable.

Start a fresh project with the appropriate HDV set-up.

Try your camera on another mac. Any luck?

When the going gets weird, trash preferences. It probably won’t help, but you eliminate that as the possible culprit.

There might be a few other things to try, but after those steps, I would do one more search of the Cow, 2-Pop, and the Apple FCP Forum to see if there was something I’d over looked. Probably a few other sites to try as well.

    Good luck.

    Tom
