Hi I have a video I need to edit and these are the specs:

    Sorenson Viodeo 3 Decompressor, 720 x 480, millions
    16 bit integer (big endian)
    29.97

It is just one 6 minute clip music video and I will be cutting some other external clips into it.

My question is do I need to transcode this footage before editing in FCP7 or are these specs ok to edit with? And if it is OK, then what Sequence settings should I use? And if not OK, then what codec should I transocde this into?

    thank you

Gotta convert. FCP doesn’t edit that format.

    Convert to DV/NTSC.

    thanks,

can u tell from the specs i gave whether it’s HD or not? I know the footage was originally shot on a professional $100,000 digital video camera.

The file you have isn’t HD. It’s highly compressed and in an SD frame size. If you want it in HD, you’ll need to have them send an HD file. DNxhd, or ProRes…

Thank you Shane! I went ahead and transcoded and the editing has been smooth and problem-free!

I also have some new footage for a different video that i’m wondering if needs to be transcoded, i posted that question in a separate post if you have a chance to check it.
    thanks
