End Credits – creating problems in DVD Player
I edited my 20 minutes short film in FCP. Subtitles are also created in FCP. For end credits, I used Adobe After Effects, exported as a mov file and imported that file into FCP. I designed my DVD in DVD SP. I tested the DVD before burning and everything looked good including the end credits. Then I burned the DVD and tested in DVD player. That’s when I came across this problem.
Subtitles came out fine but the end credits that I created from AE is slightly blurry. I don’t where the problem is. I am assuming it might be the frame rate.
My film in FCP is 24 fps. So when I exported the end credits file from AE, I used the same frame rate 24 fps. I used the Compressor ‘Create DVD’ template. This automatically set the frame rate to 23.98 (Inspector – Video Format – Frame Rate). I tried to change to 24 but the field is grayed out.
When I imported the compressed ac3 and m2v files to DVDSP, I noticed that MPEG-2 Video frame rate is displaying as 29.97 fps. As I did not change the frame rate myself in Compressor/DVDSP, I did not give that much importance.
I burned the DVD and tested in MAC which played fine. The problem occurred when I played in DVD player. Where is the problem and how do I fix this?
PS: 1) The end credits I have is not a scrolling credit. Static credits fading in and fading out.
2) I used the font ‘Trajan Pro’ in AE to create end credits. Can the blurry be due to this font type?Thanks.

Film cameras makes real 24fps.
Video cameras make 23,98 fps which is normally called p24.
24 fps is not a standard in video and so, DVDs are 23,98 (or 29,97).
You must make your AE credits at 23,98fps.

I exported the credits in 23.976 frame rate from AE. Still it creates the same problem when I play it in the DVD player.
I also tried exporting in 29.97 frame rate. Same problem.
Even in small indie movies, I have seen clean credits without any blurry. Any one any suggestions?

Which codec are you using?

In FCP,
Video settings is Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).
In Compressor,
Video codec is MPEG-2.
Video encoder format is M2V.Audio encoder format is AC3.
