I need a new internal drive for my Mac. What’s are the current recommended models? The last one I bought was a Seagate Barracuda. I’m replacing a Hitachi Deskstar.

I wasn’t aware that there ever was a “recommended” hard drive. I’ve had succuss and failure with every hard drive – Hitachi, Seagate, Western Digital, etc. They all fail eventually. I currently run 2 Western Digital drives, 1 Seagate, and 1 Crucial SSD in my Mac Pro.

You may even look at SSD’s, especially if you’re using this drive as a boot drive. Installing a SSD on my Mac Pro helped perk it up a little bit.

    Thank you Ryan,

I was just wondering what was working well (or not so well) for people recently, performance-wise. It will be for media. Next time I need a system drive, I will definitely consider an SSD.

I’ve been very happy with Western Digital Caviar Blacks as my media drives (mostly software RAID-0). I look for the model number of the drive I want on the WD products list page, then search the web for the best price.
