    Hello all,
So I just got off a con call and the client is thinking about doing a job that requires the use of 3D glasses. This is something I have never done before in AFX, but would love to try. I have very limited knowledge of HOW this technology works.

After a little searching I have found this tutorial…
    https://interactive.usc.edu/members/phoberman/archives/afterEffectsTutorial.pdf

It uses a Stereo Calculator App that helps you set the Left and Right Cameras in AFX

My question(s) is this: Is this tutorial what I should be looking at? And if so, how would one test the actual “3D ness” of the final output. From what I read there are two types of 3d glasses, ones that are passive that accept the images from 2 projectors with polarizers on them ( which a computer screen can not do ) and the other are the electronic 3d glasses that are synced with the screen to seperate the left and right cameras….I am guessing that is the route I would need to go to test this easily.

Any help, ideas, or general point in the right direction would be great. Thanks for reading this long post.

    Thanks for your feedback.

For this job ( if it still goes through that is ) It’s pretty much just calling for all graphics on screen, no footage. So no, it probably won’t be great 3d. Every thing on the screen will be generated in photoshop or ae.

So in that respect, I think the tutorial should be ok?

Well, they have made some specifics now. There going to be using the “passive” 3D glasses that use the polar lenses..this means no AE 3D Glasses Effect.

This is starting to frustrate me a bit, like with most jobs/clients they want a bid on what it ill take to make this happen, and I cant test the work till we get a theatre set up here for testing, and I cant get a theatre set up till we get the job! lol.

I really hope this tutorial does the trick!

Dave – you are thinking of the View-Master.

I came across this thread looking for tutorials on stereoscopic 3d graphics. Shame the original tutorial PDF link is dead.
