Can’t open P2 files
Posted by Bruce Assardo on November 22, 2011 at 8:57 pmI am trying to Log & Transfer some P2 footage and am getting this message and it won’t give me access to the footage…
“FILE” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
Thanks!

November 22, 2011 at 9:16 pmChoose the ROOT folder that contains the CONTENTS folder. Don’t go digging.
Here…tutorial: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial
If you did that and STILL get the error…well, is the full card structure there? Contents…inside 6 folders with names like VIDEO, VOICE, CLIP, AUDIO, PROXY…?

November 22, 2011 at 9:20 pmThis error usually but not always happens when people make copies of files but do not retain the original file structure.
Are you working directly from the P2 cards or copies ?
I usually find its best to make copies from the cards onto a media drive, the proviso is make sure you absolutely retain the file structure as the originals and then import from there.
Shane Ross did a P2 workflow ages ago – may be useful

November 22, 2011 at 9:23 pmWe copied the contents of the cards onto my firewire drive. Is there a missing component i can add now? A Last Clip kind of thing?

November 22, 2011 at 9:30 pm4 minutes late again Neil…hee!
Do you have the file structure I outline in the tutorial? A folder with a unique name, then CONTENTS and LASTCLIP, and in the CONTENTS the VIDEO, VOICE, PROXY, CLIP, AUDIO…? Missing anything?

November 22, 2011 at 9:36 pmAnd did you choose the root level folder? Not the CONTENTS folder, or any of the ones inside, but the folder that the contents folder is inside. Just choose THAT folder.

The Last Clip is needed. Not all is lost. You can recreate the Last Clip. Google for the answer.
This is how it should look:
