  Zooming in (ie Scale up) on AVCHD for a DVD

  I have some PAL AVCHD clips which I took with my Panasonic TM300 and in the Browser they show as Frame Size 1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Apple ProRes 422, 14.7 MB/Sec, Pixel Aspect Square, Field Dominance (Upper (Odd)

  My end product will be a normal DVD.

  My question is how far can I reasonably zoom in (ie, the Scale parameter under Basic Motion) and still have a reasonable image on the (Standard Definition) DVD? Is there a simple formula? Might a scale of 200 be OK? A bit more?

  Well if you zoom in while in a 1920×1080 sequence – you will experience degradation and quality loss, even when viewing the SD-DVD.

  If you have a fair bit of zooming to do and ONLY going to SD-DVD, then consider working in a SD sequence. That way you have lots of play to work in and around the HD clips…
