  • FCP7 Suddenly Won’t Launch, But It Did a Few Days Ago

I posted this on Apple’s FCP Discussion forum, but didn’t get any responses. So I apologize if you’ve already seen this post.

For some reason, FCP 7 won’t launch any more. It did just a few days ago. Nothing has changed on my system. When I launch FCP, the startup screen comes up, showing what’s loading. Then nothing. No FCP. Nothing showing in Activity Monitor. I can launch DVDSP. I get the same result with FCP whether I launch the App or double clicking on an FCP project file. It starts to load, but never makes it.

I can’t re-install FCS, since I’m not running Lion. I had brought FCP over from Snow Leopard.

I have FCP X installed. But FCP 7 ran fine a few days ago with X installed. FCP 7 was and still is, sitting inside the FCP Studio folder in Applications. Right where FCP X puts it when it gets installed.

    I have tried:
    – Repair permissions.
    – Trashing all FCP preferences.

    Any other suggestion?

My system: (which hasn’t changed since it did launch only a few days ago)
    Lion 10.7.1
    FCP 7
    FCP X
    ATI 5770
Quadro 4000 (slave only, no monitor attached)
    24 GB RAM

Apple has procedures to follow when installing X and FCS 2009 on the same system: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722

Read that, and give the procedures a go..

    Thanks Jerry.

I’m familiar with procedure. I haven’t done it yet. I probably will, if I don’t come across any other suggestions.

The thing is, FCP 7 was working just fine without having moved it back to the Applications folder. It just stopped loading, with no changes.

    Jerry.

Well, I decided to give it a try. No change. FCP 7 still won’t load. It starts, the splash screen shows what FCP 7 is loading, but it never loads. DVDSP, Compressor and Motion all load fine.

    Any other suggestions?

    Ugh.

I didn’t load it on the same startup disk as Studio 2009 here… did a separate boot disk for it. Did you do a search in the FCP X techniques forum for the issue? Might try that.

I’m having the same issue. Just started today. I have un-installed FCP X, I un-installed and re-installed FCP 7. It was working fine yesterday!

    Best of luck!
