FCP settings for the JVC HM750
Hi all,
I’ve just acquired the new JVC HM750 and shooting in HD. I can obtain a mov file and put it straight onto the timeline. But what does the HD setting on FCP need to be before adding the clip to the timeline.

You didn’t mention what version FCP you have but if it’s new enough when you drop a clip into a new/emty sequence FCP will prompt you to alter the settings to best match your clip. Makes it easy.
If you don’t have this, then choose an easy setup that matches what you shot. Create a new sequence AFTER you have choose an easy setup.

It’s FCP version 7.0.3, and yes it does prompt me to do so but once I’ve edited it, I need to export it as an HD clip still and that’s where I’m lost.

Well first we need to know what codec that camera uses for it’s video files.

Edit HD.
Export “Current Settings”
Drop that file into a compression program to create files for web or dvd or BDChris Tompkins

No it didn’t tell what settings all the original post said wad mov file. That could mean any one of hundreds of codecs.
The reason it’s important to know what codec that camera uses to record is because many cameras do not record in a format that is naitivly FCP compatible, so they need to be converted to a proper editing codec before bringing it into FCP.

What the camera is telling me for HD:
system definition – HD(MPEG2)
file format: QuickTime
camera resolution: 1920×1080
frame & bit rate: 50i(HQ) -
The codec is:
XDCAM EX (35mbs) for HD
25mbs for DV

Thanks Chris,
Ultimately some of my clips are going on TV so I send them on to an ftp site, so the file needs to sit on my desktop until it’s ready. Would there need to be different settings, as the file could be too large to send via ftp.
I’ve set the easy setup settings to XDCAM EX 35mbs
