  FCP Multiclip Export keeps crashing

  I have a 2 camera sequence that I set up to multiclip edit in FCP 7. During the editing process, I encountered some issues with the sequence. At one point in particular there was this really loud noise and the image had all sorts of crazy boxes. I deleted the multiclip and re-digitized the media. This seemed to do the trick. The problem now is that every time I try to export the sequence, either with Compressor or to a QuickTime Conversion, FCP crashes. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here? If a full fix isn’t possible, can you think of any quick fixes in the meantime? I’m under a very tight deadline and need to have the posted by the end of the day.

  Did you collapse the sequence? How about sending it to Compressor?

  Hi Jeff,

  Yes, I nested the track which contained the multiclips. I had 8 videos all together that I edited, 5 of the videos exported without incident, but these three would crash every time and not allow me to export.

  I ended up calling FCP Professional support and the guy suspected that FCP had somehow become corrupted. He suggested trying to export on another computer I have with FCP and also reinstall FCP on the computer I was having issues with. I did this and the export, yet again, crashed. I decided to re-digitize all my footage and then completely rebuild the edit from scratch. This time I did not encounter any of the weird issues I did the first time, so I was hopeful when the export began. Unfortunately, it crashed again.

  At this point, I am completely stumped. Does anyone out there have any ideas about what could be going on here?

  Elisa,

  I’m full of wild ideas….let’s try a couple

  I’m sorry, when I wrote: Did you collapse the sequence?
  I meant, did you select the clips and select ‘collapse multiclips’?
  If not, could you try that?

  As long as I’m playing loose and fast with your problem(s) (by the way – great idea calling Apple Pro Video support…)
  Why not after collapsing the multiclip, export an XML of the clip, in a new project try importing the xml and then relinking it to your existing media.
  Let me know if that makes sense.

  Last, have you tried exporting a single timeline of all the video non-multiclip as a QuickTime reference?

  I’d be curious if any (or all) of those crash fcp.
