  I am looking tutorial on how to do the “vibrating” “scattering” FX in final cut pro.

  Thank you Jeff

  I am a newbie at FCP so my wording may not be the one typically used to describe the FX. What I am looking for is to get some kind of trembling/vibrating FX of the footage- I saw this FX in some horror films, and sometimes in action sequences.

  It is at 53s when the actor is starting to have some weird visualizations. It may have been done thru quick cuts only without a special FX.

  Is there a good FCP video tutorial online for dummies like me that covers the basics?

  Fredric,

  I admire your humility, but I’ll not say you’re a dummy. We never know who is on the other end of the screen.

  Meanwhile, yeah, this is a series of rapid cuts, with some keyframing of both scale & position.
  Here’s what I’d do to ‘nail’ this. I’d download this off of youtube, and step through the frames. Each cut, I’d write down a description (like, shakes up and down+pushes in.) This series of shot descriptions will tell you exactly what to do in final cut pro.

  You’re not really going to find a ‘here’s how to do this’ beyond that – because each cut utilizes some slight variations. Although, yeah, it might make a good article (with the right footage.) Two keys – there were multiple takes of this and the DP kept the actor in the same general place in the frame.

  People like me (newbie) certainly need your advices :-)) I’d wish they were tutorials or online coaching about some of the FCP effects- like this one.

  I’ve never used it, but you could start off with the earthquake filter that is built into FCP in the distort section.
