    Hi!
I am logging a big amount of AVCHD files and I would like to be able to export the list from Log and Transfer, but I can’t find a way to do that. Is it not possible? I don’t want to transfer the files yet because I am not sure which clips to use.

Sorry, no. Your clips aren’t logged until they are transferred.

You can always delete later. 🙂

    Hi!
Now I discovered another thing: When I create a new FCP project and open the files I had logged in another project, the new project L&T window can’t read my logging notes!

That´s something everybody ought to know – and perhaps I was the only one who didn’t – and then the question arises: How can I log clips so that theese metadata (?) follows the original P2 or AVCHD files and not only appear in one special FCP project’s L&T window?

If using P2, you need to edit the P2 metadata and then send the MXf files over natively. I use P2 flow and MXF4mac just for this. It works great.

The metadata should stick with the project, but the trick is you have to TRANSFER the footage inorder for the metadata to stick to the project. You can’t log and not transfer. You will lose the metadata.

At last I have had time to test this:
open log and transfer, log AVCHD or P2 clips, transfer to FCP, save and shut down, delete the clips by going into the FinalCutPro Capture Scratch File and delete the clips from there.
THEN when I open the project again, open log and transfer: all my logging notes have disappeared.

Obviously I need to buy an application that can change the metadata in a way that the changes stay on while I work with the clips in FCP. WHich one works best?

And the free Panasonic P2CMS makes me wonder – it isn’t even correct English in it. I don’t want to seem cocky – my English is far from perfect – but they should get it right on an international level I think.

[Björn Obenius] “THEN when I open the project again, open log and transfer: all my logging notes have disappeared. “

But they are still in the project, correct? After you have logged and transferred, those notes are now in the project. You then batch capture all the material if you need the media back.

For P2, check out p2 Flow. Metadata moves with the footage, not just the FCP project file. Not sure about AVCHD.

While my English is questionable at best, yes, P2CMS is not localized very well. You should check out the manual. 🙂
