I’ve got a massive problem with QuickTime-files coming to our shop with the LibQT codec. I presume these come from Smoke or Flame systems but the problem i have is I don’t know how to interoperate these files.

QuickTime and Final Cut Pro sees the files as the “none” codec, but I’m not allowed to change the gamma setting so I’m not sure FCP actually reads them as RGB.. Normally if I worked with RGB-files in FCP I’d apply the 2.2 or 2.22 gamma over the “source” as this often is wrong. I can’t do that out of the box with these LibQT-files however with out first converting them to the animation codec. Oddly enough I can’t seem to find a standard for these LibQT codec QuickTimes – some look correct with gamma 2.20 or 2.22, some with gamma 1.8.

So long story short – is there a solution for me to know what setting they should be in or will I always have to double-check this with the post-fasility they came from?
