Is their any harm in outputting via file an unrendered sequence? Let’s say I made a change to a previously rendered sequence and thus the whole long file becomes unrendered (orange line in timeline not red). Is is OK to output the sequence (ProRes HQ) without re-rendering the entire sequence again? I have done it and I see no difference but just want to through it out to “pasture” to see if I’m being foolish. It seems to save a lot of time not having to render and then output. (Obviously I am talking about minor changes that I don’t necessarily have to verify in real time.)

FCP needs to render the sequence when you output it – so if you are outputting the sequence in the same codec you are rendering in, you would see little timesaving via either method.

FCP renders as it exports… however only the exported file benefits – the sequence itself stays as it was.

So I recommend rendering first and then exporting. If the computer is going to go to the trouble of rendering you may as well retain all it’s hard work.
