    Hey…
    Newbie here…

I’m getting ready to ingest a big project shot on a Canon 7D. I know that I need to use the Canon plugin to convert from the native H.264, and my main choices are variants of the ProRes family. I expect this project to have a 90-ish minute finish length, and it is very likely that we will actually do our final conform on FCP7.

So, should I ingest/convert to ProRes 422 (Proxy), then re-ingest at ProRes 444 for conform, or is that just a waste (considering the original source… ProRes 444 may be more resolute than the original footage)? It has been suggested that I just ingest at ProRes 422 (normal) and cut it with no re-ingest/conform step.

    Your thoughts are much appreciated.

    Gray,
Don’t waste your time and go directly to plain Prores.
With Prores HQ you won’t extract more quality from the 420 H264 of the camera. Prores 444 not even to consider.
