Best codec for 7D footage
Hey…
Newbie here…I’m getting ready to ingest a big project shot on a Canon 7D. I know that I need to use the Canon plugin to convert from the native H.264, and my main choices are variants of the ProRes family. I expect this project to have a 90-ish minute finish length, and it is very likely that we will actually do our final conform on FCP7.
So, should I ingest/convert to ProRes 422 (Proxy), then re-ingest at ProRes 444 for conform, or is that just a waste (considering the original source… ProRes 444 may be more resolute than the original footage)? It has been suggested that I just ingest at ProRes 422 (normal) and cut it with no re-ingest/conform step.
Your thoughts are much appreciated.
