XDCAM – DPX with super whites ?
Posted by James Mortner on August 17, 2010 at 3:20 pmHello all COW-ers,
Anyone had some experience doing this ?
Ive conformed an XDCAM sequence, media managed all the shots into separate chunks and exported to DPX. Except the DPX files are clipped at 0-100 where the original shots went right to 125.
Is this a shortcoming of gluetools ? Is there a way around ?
Many thanks

Sure that’s not 115 IRE?
I do not know of too many cameras that can record to 125 IRE, and non of them are ENG style.Since you do not say how or with what that you handled this process we are all left to guess.
My guess is that you messed up and left a broadcast safe setting ON somewhere ( like in COLOR)- but without a workflow it is impossible to be sure.

August 18, 2010 at 9:11 amSorry, I havent given you enough details here.
I was supplied an FCP project with XDCAM media which all reconnected a-ok. I then media managed the conform into separate XDCAM QT files. All well and good. However, when using compressor and gluetools to export DPX files it seems to clip the luminance at 100% where the source went all the way to 107%. I was using a 10bit raw colour export setting in gluetools.
Is there a way to export DPX files with the luminance preserved ? Do i need to export with a new white point so as to preserve levels within 100% ?
Phew

You missed a setting in compressor, or it could be in your GT Prefs.
what are your settings in the GT prefs pane?
which compressor settings did you use.
Like I said you missed a setting somewhere that truncated the color space to “broadcast safe”

August 18, 2010 at 3:39 pmI used ’10bit Raw Image data’ setting on compressor and the GT prefs pane has the same.
I don’t see how broadcast safe comes into it as the footage is QT files straight into compressor, no FCP colour space applied ?
