Just got an intel mac and am running FCP 7 (studio). Everything was going fine then I started having a drive failure with my video raid and everything started going a little wonky. As I am an Avid editor trying to switch to FCP I should have known better than to keep pushing my machine….but guess what…I did and now I am up a creek without a paddle it seems.
FCP will not launch! I keep getting error messages.
Anyway I have been researching what to do and I have tried everything but uninstalling and reinstalling. I guess I am at that point. I have seen that I should try FCS Remover. My question is…Should I uninstall the studio in it’s entirety or just final cut? The other software in the studio are just fine.

I have deleted all my system prefs and even moved all my plugins just in case there was a compatibility issue. I still get an error message on launch and won’t even open so I can’t even find the preferences folder anymore. Is this because it can not rebuild those files without opening the program?

I am at such a loss and really don’t know where to go from here. I have apple care but everyone tells me NOT to contact apple. I know there probably isn’t enough detail here but if anyone has any ideas that could steer me in the correct direction, I would be so appreciative!

Thanks for your time and willingness to help an PC, Avid editor that is trying desperately to convert!

    What are the error messages?

    My software:
FCS Maintenance Pack – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
FCP Versioner – Backs up Final Cut Pro projects to XML and creates changelists for each revision
    More tools…

a couple of things I can think of.

As mentioned above, listing the error message on the forum would help.
Is your raid array RAID 0, RAID 5, etc… Can you rebuild the RAID (bad drive as in RAID 5) If you lost a drive in a Raid 0…Sorry.
Where did your FCP Project File Live. Have you checked the Autosave Vault to open the Autosaved project? Does any other FCP project file open?

    Good Luck,

My raid is a raid 0. The bottom drive is the one that failed so I am in the process of taking that drive out and getting it replaced. I am OK with losing the data that was on the raid as it was relatively new one and everything but one project is backed up.

I am really not sure how to build it as a raid 5. Does that mean I need 5 drives? (I know computer illiterate but I am trying) I know it has to do with if one drive fails I won’t lose data but I’m really not sure how that works. I guess I could contact macgurus for that.

Anyway…FCP will not open anything. It goes through the messages like its scanning everything then quits. When I get home from work I will post the error message I get so you can better understand what its doing. Thanks again for your willingness to help convert me to a mac user and to FCP!

Perhaps it’s a problematic plugin. Have you installed any third party plugins or Audio Units?

I did install 3rd party plugins but I have since gotten rid of them to see if that was the issue. I thought I uninstalled them all but I am still seeing FX factory start up when everything scans before the system crashes. How do I make sure I have uninstalled all of these on my intel mac. Maybe part of my confusion is making sure things are REALLY uninstalled. Also I know some plugins probably came with the initial FCP program but I removed them all from the plugins folder. I am not sure what is supposed to be in that folder and what isn’t. FX Factory is the only 3rd party plugin I had to “install” a program to run other than putting the plugin into the plugins folder.

I paid for the FX Factory plugins. I am assuming that when I do finally get it all the way off my machine I will be able to reinstall and use the serial number given to me to get them back. That plugin bundle does work with After Effects and other programs and since I paid $400 I would at least like to use it for that. Is there a way to only install a set of plugins for After Effects and not FCP if I find that is the issue? If so how?

    Thanks again,
    Jennifer
