Exporting to HDCAM
Hello
I’m exporting a 22 min show from FCP to HDCAM and I was wondering if there was a quicker way than how I’m doing it currently.I’m working off a G5 tower with 2 Lacie 2TB external drives. Exporting out thru the KONA3 card into a Sony HDCAM deck.
My projects are on the external drives and I’m Printing to Tape from those drives. They are connected with firewire 800.
The writing of video for each project (22 mins in length) is taking just over 2hrs.
I was wondering if I were to export the projects as QT movies and drop them on the Hard Drive of the G5 and Print to Tape from there if it would take any less time?
Cutting out the externals all together at that point.Thanks in advance

You mean the render?

Well “writing video” is what it says it’s doing when I get ready to print to tape. But it is basically Rendering.
I actually render the project prior to print to tape so I can look it over and check for mistakes so that takes off the time it takes to Print to Tape.I’m really just wondering if the process of Printing to Tape would be quicker if I were to do it from the Hard Drive on the G5 rather than from the Ext Drives hooked up with firewire800

I don’t want to hijack this thread but this is related.
About 2 in 10 times when I’m laying back uncompressed 8 bit 1080p 23.98 footage to either D5 or HDSR, I get a “writing video” box that generally takes a few minutes for a 15 minute timeline. Longer the timeline the longer the “writing to video”. Never says anything about rendering and my timeline is always fully rendered before this happens.
Latest FCP, Kona 3, 4TB Xserve, 3TB internal raid
Any ideas on that one?

Ah, got ya. Are there any disabled clips in your timeline? If so, delete them and the writing video will go away.

Thanks I’ll double check on that.
But what I’m really wanting to know is
is it faster to export from the internal drive or is it the same if exporting from the external drives with FW800

Turn off MULTICLIP PLAYBACK in the RT menu. I had this SAME ISSUE last year. Everything rendered fully, then a 25-30 min WRITING VIDEO message.
