Star wars effect
Posted by 50calguy on September 6, 2007 at 4:34 pmHello
Im making a starwars spoof and need help with an effect. You know when a ship goes into hyperspace and the stars get stretched out into lines, anyone know how I can create that?
thanks

(it’s a render hog, though … be prepared to wait) -

September 6, 2007 at 5:12 pmi think you could also do this with particular, using the aux system to emit from the main particles (the main particles being the stars).
if you have particular, i could walk you thru a set up to get started with…
you could also use cc particle world to create a starfield fly thru… not quite the same effect, but might work for you if you don’t have another 3d particle system, or zoom blur doesn’t work.

September 6, 2007 at 9:44 pmAndrew Kramer also has a tutorial on the Mac/ipod light streaks. You could probably achieve what you’re after with a few tweaks to that method.

September 7, 2007 at 12:32 amI think there is a fairly easy method as follows:
– Create a starry sky using the same method Andrew Kramer used in his Earth tutorial. This means adding a solid and using Fractal noise. I used the following settings:
Fractal Type Dynamic, Noise Type Soft Linear, contrast = 600
, brightness = -280. Now, you should see stars on a black background.
– Turn this layer to be 3D
– Animate it such that it moves towards the camera in z-direction only.
– Precomp this (Ctrl-shift-C), move all attributes
– Then apply the Echo Effect to the precomp
– keyframe the number of echos, starting at 0 to about 250
– Add glow and use toner as you like. All it needs is a little sound effect and you should be done.
Hope this helps
