Cinema Tools conversion question
Hello,
I’m editing a FCP sequence where 98% of all the footage was shot 23.976. There are some shots which were mistakenly shot at 29.97 and I’m looking for a step by step breakdown on how to convert the 29.97 to 23.976 in Cinema Tools.
I did a search here on Creative Cow and couldn’t find anything, so any help you can give would be very appreciated.

CinemaTools is not your way.
With CinemaTools You would get your 29’98 footage slow down a 20%.
You need Compressor or Mpgstreamclip.

I have Compressor…is there a certain preset I should use?
Right now, the 29.97 footage is DVCProHD 1080p30 at 1280×1080. I’d like the final footage to be Apple ProRes 422 1920×1080 at 23.976.
Is it just as simple as applying the Apple ProRes 422 preset in Compressor, making sure the frame rate is 23.976 and hitting go or do I need to do something else?

Turn the Frame Controls on and set the Rate Conversion to Better or Best.
This might take awhile. A long while.

Best might be overkill in this case. He’s really only rescaling the DVCPROHD pixels, not doing a full on upconversion from a non HD source. Do a short test using normal or better and see if it works for you. The difference in encoding time is tremendous with everything set to Best…so choose wisely.
