Quick jumps appear in three minute pan of an extremely long image
Hi,
I’m creating a video that is essentially a 3:16 long pan of one huge image. The image is about 76,000 pixels long and 960 high. It looks great except for the fact that I get slight bump in the rhythm sporadically, maybe every 7 seconds. It’s inconsistent but annoying. Basically it goes from being very smooth to accelerating for a fraction of a second… like a mini jump in the pan.
i’ve tried different timelines 720p, 1080i, SD,
i’ve tried different frame rates 12,15, 24p, 30p, 60p – 60 works the best
i’ve tried flicker filters, deinterlacing filters,
i’ve tweaked the rendering possibilities making everything as high resolution as possible.Out of ideas… any help would be appreciated.

Fcp doesn’t work very well with images over about 4k. Is this a panaormic still you have stitched together or what’s the source?

Thanks for responding.
Yeah it’s a panaoramic still I stitched together. Motion seemed to do a better job but it’s tough to have the chunks synch up and move perfectly together in a way which makes the cut in the photo unnoticeable. Do you know motion well? Maybe there’s a way to motion track one chunk in relation to another one. I just haven’t been able to find anything.

do it in Motion or AE or Combustion and bring it into FC

Yeah I’m giving it a whirl in AE but for some reason I can’t make the duration of the still more than 00:06:36. Any clue how to fix it? I try to adjust in the timeline functions on the left (in, out, duration, stretch) but it keeps limiting it.
Any clue why?

you need to set it in the project settings. You should be able to set it as long as you want. The default is usually 10 seconds.
Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

You need change the composition settings to the desired length of your pan. With the composition window selected, hit Ctl+k or Cmd+k to open the composition settings. Enter the desired composition length. Now you can drag your image layer to fill the composition.

Thanks guys.
I tried those things but the image still stays at about 6 seconds. The timeline is the right length etc but the Stretch field is set at 9900.00% – seems to be it’s limit. I wonder if that’s what’s doing it.
I have no clue about After Effects.

Don’t mess with stretch. Hover over the end of the image layer and you should see a little double ended arrow. Click and drag to extend the length of the layer.

What do you mean by ‘chunk’?

Hey Jeremy,
By “Chunks” I mean the smaller cut up segments of the longer image.
AE or Motion? what do you think will work better?
